The 15th German Athletics Championships took place on August 18, 1912 in Duisburg . Exceptions were the decathlon - held on September 15th in Munich - and the 100 km street walking - held on September 1st in Munich. This competition was last held at the German Championships. In its place came in walking distance of 50 from 1920 km into the competition program. There were no new disciplines compared to the previous year.

In addition, a marathon took place again - in Berlin on November 3rd, this time over 42 km, which, however, was not officially part of the championship competitions until 1924, but was carried out independently as a "German Marathon".

Richard Rau won both sprint courses for the third time in a row.
