The 103rd German Athletics Championships were held on June 28th and 29th, 2003 in the Danube Stadium in Ulm .
Melanie Seeger set a new German record over the 20 km distance with her winning time of 1:29:44 h at the walking championships in Naumburg on April 13th .
As usual, some disciplines have been outsourced for time or organizational reasons:
- Cross-country runs - Bad Dürrheim , March 8th, a route for women as well as a medium and long distance for men, each with individual and team ratings
- Half marathon - Burghaslach , March 22nd with individual / team ratings for women and men
- 20 km walking (women) / 50 km walking (men) - Naumburg , April 13th with individual / team evaluations over 20 kilometers and an individual evaluation over 50 kilometers
- 10,000 meter run (women and men) - Munich , May 17
- Marathon run - as part of the Rhine-Ruhr Marathon in Duisburg , June 1st with individual / team ratings for women and men
- 20 km walking (men) / 10 km walking (women) - Potsdam , June 1st
- Mountain run - Berchtesgaden , June 22nd with individual / team ratings for women and men
- Long relay teams (women: 3 × 800 m / men: 3 × 1000 m) - Fulda , July 6th
- All-around competitions - Wesel , 23./24. August with individual / team ratings for women ( heptathlon ) and men ( decathlon )
- 100 km road race - Endingen , September 6th with individual / team classification for men and individual classification for women
- 10 km road race - Troisdorf , September 14th women and men
