Susanne Keil (born May 18, 1978 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German athlete and Olympian in hammer throw .

Susanne Keil started for LG Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of 2004 , then for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . With a height of 1.72 m, she had a competition weight of 69 kg. From the end of the 1990s to the end of her career in 2007, Keil was one of the best German hammer throwers and one of the world's best. She achieved her personal best of 72.74 m on July 15, 2005 in Nikiti , which was a German record at the time. She set four German records in total, three of which were in 2003. Susanne Keil was German champion in 2002 and 2003; 2001 and 2004 to 2006 she was runner-up. She was the first German to throw the hammer over the 70-meter mark when she improved the record she held to 71.93 m at the traditional hammer throwing meeting in Fränkisch-Crumbach in June 2003 .

In the Olympic year 2004, of all places, Susanne Keil was unable to match her strong performance from the previous year due to an elbow injury. She achieved her best of the year with 67.77 m in July in Braunschweig. At the Olympic Games in 2004 she failed with a disappointing 66.35 m in qualification. Her internationally most valuable result was fifth place at the 2003 World Championships with a width of 69.43 m. She was twelfth at the 2005 World Championships , and in 2001 she was eliminated in qualifying. At the European level, she won the bronze medal in the 1997 female juniors' championships with 59.22 m; in the active area, tenth place at the European Championships in 2002 was her best result. In January 2003, Keil completed an apprenticeship as a publishing clerk . After the end of her sports career, she took up a position at the Remscheider General-Anzeiger .
