Roman Fricke

Roman Fricke (born March 23, 1977 in Bremen ) is a former German high jumper . Today he supports the athletics department at SV Werder Bremen as a trainer .

Career

Roman Fricke started out as a gymnast and soccer player at TSV Neubruchhausen. There his talent for athletics was discovered at the annual sports badge. In 1988 he started for the first time in athletics for the TV Bruchhausen-Vilsen in the four-way fight, which he won straight away. From then on, under the direction of Heinz-Wilhelm Kraft, Roman Fricke collected German school and youth championship titles in all-around and high jump. At the age of 15, he jumped 2.01 m in 1992, after which Wolfgang Killing had appointed him to the German national high jump squad the following year . After changing clubs to SV Werder Bremen and LAC Halensee Berlin, he joined TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2000 . Successful participation in national and international competitions was completed under the direction of Hans-Jörg Thomaskamp. Nominations and requests for placements at European Cup events followed. With a jumped height of 2.27 m in the preliminary fight, he secured the finals at the 2003 World Championships in Paris . The result was 13th place with a skipped 2.20 m. His best performance is 2.30 m, which he jumped in May 2004 in Herzogenbuchsee . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he retired with 2.20 m in qualification.

Fricke was German champion in 2003 and 2004, and German indoor champion in 2003, 2004 and 2006. With a height of 1.94 m, his competition weight was 84 kg. He started as coach of Leon Schäfer at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen. His commitment is to the jumping and heptathlon area at SV Werder Bremen. Among other things, Mareike Max, Nele Wöltjen and Wiebke Oelgardt are looked after by Roman Fricke.
