Wolfgang Paul August Killing (born February 12, 1953 in Radevormwald ) has a doctorate in sports and social science and was one of the best high jumpers in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1970s .

In 1976 Wolfgang Killing took part in the high jump at the Olympic Games in Montreal .

In 1978 he set two European indoor high jump records with 2.27 m and 2.28 m at British indoor sports festivals. In the same year he was third at the European Indoor Championships. In this legendary competition, Vladimir Yashchenko from the USSR jumped a sensational world record with a height of 2.35 m . Rolf Beilschmidt from the GDR came in second .

After his active competitive time, he became the national coach of the German Athletics Association . In October 2006, Killing switched to the DLV coaching school in Mainz, of which he is the head. For several years he organized the Wuppertal indoor high jump meeting, to which the world elite of the high jump (later also the pole vault ) was a regular guest.

At his hometown club Barmer TV 1846 Wuppertal , he had also worked as a trainer for many years. One of his protégés at the time, Thomas Kremer , was national trainer (sprint area) and meeting director of the ISTAF , an IAAF Golden League meeting . In 2005, Killing was elected chairman of the association. In March 2015 he announced that he would not run again for this office in the upcoming new elections.
