career

Holz completed a degree in economics and graduated with a doctorate. He worked in the advertising industry and worked with Dolce Media GmbH under the management of managing partner Christoph Gottschalk, among other things, for marketing the show Wetten, dass ...? and moderator Thomas Gottschalk responsible. As a management consultant, Holz worked with companies from the media sector, among others.

On September 1, 2015, he took over the management of Basketball Bundesliga GmbH as the successor to Jan Pommer . In a conversation with the Rheinische Post in August 2018, Holz reiterated the goal set by his predecessor Pommer to make the basketball Bundesliga the best national basketball league in Europe by 2020.

In the course of the protests against racism following the death of George Floyd in the United States , Holz pointed out that "political statements in the league" are not permitted in the Bundesliga. In response to Holz's statement, several basketball players and officials emphasized that standing up against racism was not a political statement. Holz then expressed his regret about his statements. In an open letter, he emphasized that "he had too much in mind the formal, fundamental stipulations of the league on political statements in the game". He called for a clear position against racism and emphasized that it had never been up for debate that the Bundesliga would sanction statements against racism.
