Life

In the GDR , Gert Anklam completed his vocational training as a toolmaker with the lamp manufacturer Narva . A first band came together in class, "The Toolmakers". In order not to fall under Section 249 of the Criminal Code after completing his training in the GDR - like other freelance musicians - Anklam worked as a pension payer. He mainly gave concerts in churches, among others with the saxophonist Andreas Kaufmann and the percussionist Steven Garling .

In 1993 he joined the Manfred Schulze wind quintet. There he took over the baritone parts of Manfred Schulze, who had Huntington's disease. With the Central German Saxophone Quartet there was a collaboration with the Tanzanian national ensemble, which aroused Gert Anklam's interest in world music . This led to trips and performances in the People's Republic of China , Indonesia ( Bali ), India and Japan . In Goa he studied Indian classical music with Maruti Kurdekar . At the same time, Gert Anklam began to develop a solo program on the baritone and soprano saxophone. This led to the first CD concert for b. , which was recorded in 1997 in the Völkerschlachtdenkmal Leipzig .

In 1999 Anklam got to know the Chinese instrumental virtuoso Wu Wei as part of the music project “Berlin - Shanghai, Dialogue of Sounds” and learned to play the Sheng from him . In the same year he founded the Duo Liquid Soul together with the percussionist Ulrich Moritz with the performer, taiko drummer and Kathak dancer  Beate Gatscha . Gert Anklam has been composing music for plays and radio plays for WDR , Deutschlandradio , SWR and RBB, among others, since 1997 . Since 2006 Gert Anklam has been a member of the ensemble Nu: n , founded by Falk Zenker , that improvises on medieval music . In October 2012, the German-Japanese oratorio Sho Yoku Chi Shoku was premiered , the proceeds of which went to the victims of the Tōhoku earthquake .
