Siegfried Hartmann

Siegfried Hartmann (born October 15, 1927 in Liegnitz , Lower Silesia Province ) is a German film director and screenwriter who is best known for his fairytale films .

Live and act

As a youth he was included in the Reich Labor Service towards the end of the Second World War , and only a short time later in the German Wehrmacht . In May 1945 he became a prisoner of war with the US troops, but was soon released because of his young age. By 1948 he completed an apprenticeship at the state news office in Saxony-Anhalt, two years earlier he had applied as a volunteer at its predecessor organization. In 1949 he trained as a director at the DEFA junior studio.

He gained his first experience in film from 1951 to 1957 as an assistant director . In this role u. a. 1953 in the production of The Story of Little Muck . In 1957 he received a contract as a director for DEFA, the following year he made his debut as a screenwriter and director with the films Das Feuerzeug and Fiete online . The former was a huge hit with the public.

In addition to other fairy tale films, in 1966 he also directed a crime film with Escape into Silence .

From the 1980s Hartmann was only active as a screenwriter, especially for GDR television. He worked under the pseudonym Wolfgang Lindner , among others .
