Fédération Internationale de Philatélie

The Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) is the world federation of national philatelic associations.

History and structure

The association was founded on June 18, 1926 by seven European philatelic associations (Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Czechoslovakia). The association is managed by the board of directors with a president and a vice-president. The FIP is organized in the legal form of an association under Swiss law and has its seat in Zurich . The FIP Congress is held every year at an international stamp exhibition sponsored by the FIP. In 2014, 87 national associations were members, plus the three continental associations FEPA (Europe), FIAF (America), FIAP (Asia).

aims

The primary goals of the association are:

  • Promotion of stamp collecting and philately
  • Maintaining friendly relations and friendship among peoples
  • Establishing close ties to the philatelic trade and state postal administrations
  • Promotion of philatelic exhibitions (through patronage or leadership)

The 11 departments (called commissions) are each headed by a commissioner:

  1. Aerophilately
  2. Astrophilately
  3. Fight against counterfeiting
  4. Maximaphilia
  5. Philatelic literature
  6. Postal history
  7. Postal stationery
  8. Thematic philately
  9. Classic philately
  10. Stamp marks
  11. Youth philately

The former commission for expenditure harmful to philately was dissolved.
