Motive philately

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Motif philately or thematic philately deals with collecting stamp motifs and researching them. Philatelic material is collected , mostly transnational on specific topics. Examples of such collecting areas are aviation or sports. These include a number of widely collected topics, which can, however, be put together with different focal points or under different aspects. In addition to postage stamps, collectibles are also receipts ( letters , postal stationery , maximum cards ) or postmarks with images. In contrast to the classic country collections, the completeness of the collection is often not the main goal. Normally, such collections are not sorted by time, but rather subdivided according to their own criteria. There are special regulations for exhibits from philatelic exhibitions.

history

The first stamp collectors were mostly general collectors , so they collected all the stamps ever published in the world. With an increasing number of postage stamps, there was usually a specialization in certain postal areas, and motif philately developed only gradually.

As early as 1892, an exhibition in Paris had a thematically structured exhibit; there were early collections of motifs in the Soviet Union as early as the 1920s . The collecting area experienced a big boom in the 1940s. Since 1949 there has been an association for this in the USA with the American Topical Association (ATA) and in 1950 the FIPCO (Fédération Internationale de philatélie constructive) was founded as an international association. The resolution of FIPCO was decided in 1964. Instead, the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) is now taking care of such matters and has its own commission.
