The philatelie is the membership magazine of the Association of German Philatelists and a philatelic trade magazine.

history

At the annual general meeting of the Association of German Philatelists (the so-called Bundestag ) held in Celle in 1948 , it was decided to publish an internal newsletter. In January 1949 the first edition of the Federal News (BN) appeared. The BN (from 1961: Federal News ) initially appeared sporadically with mostly only four pages. Over the years, the volume grew, so that in 1956 there were 12 pages in A5 format every quarter, and in the early 1960s mostly 24 to 40 pages. From 1963 the sheet first contained pictures and from 1964 a dedicated cover picture .

Thanks to donations from the Foundation for the Promotion of Philately and Postal History (based in Frankfurt am Main), a 24-page supplement Philately and Postal History has been part of the magazine from October 1967 . By 1973 the circulation rose to 61,000 copies, in 1979 it was 64,000 copies. Due to the sharp decline in membership in the BDPh, the circulation fell and in September 2018 was 29,900 copies.

At the beginning of 1975 the magazine was renamed Philatelie , from 1980 it appeared every other month, from 1993 ten times a year and in the new A4 format . The volume increased from 64 to 80 pages in 1997, and since 2001 the magazine has been published monthly. The current issue has also been available online since December 2014.

Digitized

At the beginning of 2013, all issues from 1949 to 2012 appeared for the first time in digitized form as searchable PDF files on a USB stick . The digitized collection is expanded annually.
