Wolfgang Maassen , even Wolfgang Maassen (* 25. January 1949 in Erkelenz ) is a German philatelic journalist , author and publisher.

biography

After attending elementary school in Euskirchen (1956–1960), he received his education in a boarding school (1960–1966), then attended the upper level of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne until 1968 and passed the Abitur in the same year. He studied chemistry until 1970 in Cologne, then further studies (educational science, psychology, philosophy and theology) until 1974 in Bonn, where he passed his first state examination, and two years later in Krefeld the second state examination for teaching. He was a high school teacher from 1974 to January 2010 and since 1980 co-owner of Phil * Creativ-Verlag. He has been married to Claudia Maassen, nee Trost, since 1973, has two children and lives in Schwalmtal near Mönchengladbach and in Denia / Alicante in Spain.

Maassen worked in a leading role for numerous associations and events, and now works as a freelance author, editor and publicist. He is rank 1 juror (for literature). In the course of his life he has published over 80 book titles, supervised countless others, and published more than 4,000 specialist articles in philatelic journals at home and abroad. For two decades, his professional focus has been researching and documenting the history of philately. Since 2013 he has published his own free digital trade journal with an annual volume of 1000 pages, which can be downloaded from www.philahistorica.de. Specialties: machine brands ; Brazil; Ancient South America; Germany; Philately history; philatelic literature . He also maintains a number of thematic collections on socio-political issues.

From the mid-1970s, Maassen wrote regular columns on vending machine brands in the collector's service , numerous specialist articles in sd (including "With a pointed pen" under his alias Michael Trost), DBZ and philately . 1989–2016 he was editor-in-chief of the association and trade journal philatelie , since 1993 its property manager. Since July 2010 he has been editor-in-chief of APHV magazine , and since 2005, with a two-year break, has been editor of the AIJP magazine The Philatelic Journalist .
