The Bund Deutscher Philatelisten eV (BDPh) is the umbrella organization of the German stamp collectors' associations and philatelic working groups. The Bonn- based association publishes the association magazine philatelie for its 39,000 members (2014).

history

The forerunner association Reichsbund der Philatelisten was brought into line by the National Socialists in the organization Kraft durch Freude . After the Second World War, a union of German philatelists became active in the British zone on October 26, 1946 . The Bund Deutscher Philatelisten eV , which still exists today, was founded on October 1, 1949 in Munich as a general association of philatelic associations in the three western zones.

In June 1952 the association in Utrecht was incorporated into the world association “ Fédération Internationale de Philatélie ” (FIP).

After German reunification, there was a merger with the partner associations of the GDR. The association has been based in Bonn since 1998.

The BdPh awards numerous honors and awards, including a. has been awarded the " Kalckhoff Medal " as a literary prize since 1950 .

Members

The number of members has been declining for several years:

  • 1996: about 53,000 members in 1,250 associations and working groups.
  • 2008: around 60,000 members in 1,400 associations and working groups.
  • 2013: 45,271 members in 1,250 associations and working groups.
  • 2014: around 39,000 members in 1,200 associations and working groups.

Members magazine

The members of the BDPh receive the monthly philatelie magazine : the magazine of the Association of German Philatelists . The first edition appeared on May 5, 1948 under the title Bundesnachrichten (BN). The title philately has existed since 1974.

The magazine was honored at the Grand Prix 2002 for the best philatelic trade journal in Europe and is recommended by the AIJP (World Association of Philatelic Trade Journalists).

The Federation of German Philatelists is organized on a federal basis and consists of 13 member associations, 11 of which are geographical regional associations, but whose areas only partially correspond to the federal states: (as of December 31, 2017)

The state association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania decided to dissolve it on December 31, 2015. The member associations change to the state associations of Berlin-Brandenburg and Northern Germany.

The regional associations of Saxony (December 31, 2016 or 2017?) And Saxony-Anhalt (December 31, 2017) have dissolved. The member associations have freely chosen to join the Thuringian and Berlin-Brandenburg regional associations.

The connection to Berlin-Brandenburg was recommended, as this regional association is to be transformed into an East German association for the five new federal states on its regional association day in 2019. Since the year 2018 will pass without result and the Thuringian regional association will keep its independence, some clubs have joined Thuringia.

The Association of Philatelic Working Groups (VPhA) comprises 33 philatelic working groups. These deal with research into special collecting areas. Other associations that do not belong to the VPhA are also members of the BDPh: In 2014, 173 working groups belonged to the BDPh, with a total of 1360 members (2013).

The 16th association is the nationwide active German Philatelic Youth (DPhJ), which in turn is divided into regional groups ("Landesringe"). The member association Junge Briefmarkenfreunde Hessen decided to leave the DPhJ in 2013. Members (2013): 3726

The member associations consist of associations and thus bundle their concerns and interests. There are also direct members (2013: 182) who belong to the BDPh outside of club and association structures. They are looked after centrally by the federal office.

Most of the ArGen are organized as a registered association and regularly publish member magazines (newsletters, newsletters) in which research contributions are published. ArGen promote or give z. Some also publish catalogs and monographs themselves. In addition to general meetings under general law, some working groups also organize exchange and a. Meetings and exhibitions.

The Federal Agency for Research and Literature of the BDPh financially supports the working groups for their research and publication work.

Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Briefpostautomation eV in the BDPh eV

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Briefpostautomation e. V. (ArGe BPA) in the BDPh, founded in 1968, researches the development of postal technology from the beginnings of mechanization to automation in post offices around the world. The area of ​​interest ranges from the introduction of the first stamp machines around 150 years ago to the electronic sorting systems in the Deutsche Post mail centers and comparable systems around the world. Inkjet cancellations, PC franking and much more are included.

Research Association Post and Sender Freestamps e. V.

The research community is an association of philatelic collectors and interested parties with the aim of researching indicia according to historical, technical, geographical, thematic or local history aspects. It was founded in January 1985 in Berlin. In addition to members in Germany, the FG also has members in other countries. She maintains relationships with friendly, like-minded working groups at home and abroad.
