Siegfried Hartmann (publicist)

Siegfried Hartmann , pseudonym Loki , (born May 25, 1875 in Dresden , † September 6, 1935 in Berlin ) was a German engineer and technical publicist.

Life

He was the son of the music writer Ludwig Hartmann from Dresden and Luise née von Kirchmann. After graduating from high school and training as an officer in Saxony, Siegfried Hartmann studied in Charlottenburg and Heidelberg. He became chief engineer and as such was u. a. active in Gdansk and Mannheim. After the First World War, in which he had participated as an officer at the front, he became head of the technical editing of the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. He also became a co-founder of the Reich Association of German Technicians.

He presented numerous publications, including popular science chats about technical and scientific phenomena. In doing so, he earned the lasting merit of having stimulated broad sections of the population to understand the technology.

Today the Siegfried Hartmann Medal is given to technology journalists.
