Volleyball (women)

The volleyball department of Schweriner SC has been called SSC Palmberg Schwerin since December 2016 . The Schönberg furniture manufacturer Palmberg initially received the naming rights for five years. Previously, in 2015, the company had already secured the naming rights to the club's venue for ten years. The parties have agreed not to disclose the amount of the sponsorship commitment.

history

The starting shot for the volleyball department under the name SC Traktor Schwerin marked the year 1957. From 1960 the club played at the league level. From 1964 Gerhard Fidelak took over the coaching position. Successful three times in a row in the GDR cup competition from 1973 to 1975 . In 1975, the first international title was won with the European Cup Winners' Cup. In the next two years, the club triumphed in the championship and then won the second continental title with the 1978 European Cup. After winning the national cup in 1979, SC Traktor Schwerin was GDR champion five times in a row from 1980 to 1984 and twice (1981 and 1982) managed the double. In 1988 and 1990 there were the last Schwerin successes in the cup competition before reunification.

In 1991 the name was changed to Schweriner SC. After 30 years of coaching in Schwerin, Gerhard Fidelak ended his coaching engagement in 1994. In 1995 the SSC won the championship in reunified Germany for the first time. Since the USC Münster was denied the championship due to a doping case in 1998, the title subsequently went to the Schweriner SC. From 2000 to 2002, the championship was won three times in a row under coach Michael Schöps . From 2003 to 2008, the Norwegian Tore Aleksandersen coached the club and in 2006 became German champion with Schwerin SC. His successor was Edwin Benne from the Netherlands , who brought the championship to Schwerin in 2009. In January 2010, Benne was dismissed as the club's first and so far only coach. The reason was "disagreements between the Dutchman, the players and the SSC officials", among other things the Dutchwoman Caroline Wensink had asked to terminate her contract. Tore Aleksandersen stepped in as his successor.

From the 2011/12 season, the Dutchman Teun Buijs took over as coach. Buijs led the club to the German Championship and the DVV Cup victory in 2012 and 2013. He then moved to the top Polish team Trefl Sopot. Bujis' successor was Felix Koslowski , who has also been the coach of the German women's national team since 2015 . Koslowski won the 2017 and 2018 championships with SSC Palmberg Schwerin.
