Denise Hanke (born August 31, 1989 in Berlin ) is a German national volleyball player . She was German champion six times with Schweriner SC and vice-European champion in 2013 with the national team .

Career

Denise Hanke began her career in her hometown at the Berlin Brandenburger Sportclub . Then she played in the youth teams VC Olympia Berlin and VC Olympia Rhein-Neckar. At the U18 European Championships in 2005, she finished fifth with the German offspring.

In 2007, the setter made her debut in the senior national team . In the same year she moved to the Bundesliga club Schweriner SC . With the club she became German champion for the first time in the 2008/09 season . She was also voted the best setter and server in the league. With the national team, she reached third place at the 2009 Grand Prix . Shortly before the European Championship in Poland , however, she was removed from the squad. In 2010, Hanke was third in the Bundesliga with Schwerin and reached the cup semi-finals . She was also named Elite Student of the Year and again voted best setter and server in the league. She took part with the national team in the World Cup in Japan , which ended in seventh place for Germany.

In the 2010/11 season , Hanke was German champion for the second time with Schweriner SC. However , she was not nominated for the EM 2011 , which ended with the silver medal for Germany. In the next two seasons 2011/12 and 2012/13 Schwerin won the double of the championship and the cup with Hanke and the setter was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the season in both years. Since Schwerin made it into the playoffs in the 2012/13 Champions League and Hanke stood out there with her successful serves, several top international clubs took notice. She decided to move to Turkey to Eczacıbaşı Istanbul . Before that, she won the Europa League in 2013 with the national team . In addition, she reached the finals at the European Championships in Germany , but had little play.

With Istanbul, Hanke finished fourth in the Champions League in the 2013/14 season , but was personally less successful than before in Schwerin. The following season she stood in Poland for Impel Wrocław , but got no game shares and had to fight for her salary in court. That is why she returned to Schweriner SC in 2015. The 2015/16 season ended for the setter and the club in the playoff semi-finals. At the European level there was also a third place in the CEV Cup . In the 2016/17 season , Hanke was again German champion with Schwerin. In 2018 she also won the German championship with Schweriner SC. For them it was the sixth title in the league.
