The 2011/12 season of the women's volleyball Bundesliga began on October 14, 2011 with the opening game between Smart Allianz Stuttgart and Dresdner SC and ended with the second game of the play-off final on April 14, 2012. German champions became ninth time the team of record champions Schweriner SC .

Teams

This season the following fourteen teams played in the first division:

Schwerin SC took up the title as defending champion. Bayer 04 Leverkusen rose from the second division north. The DJK Augsburg-Hochzoll had qualified in the southern season, but waived the Bundesliga due to financial difficulties, but the Köpenicker SC Berlin remained in the first division.

Main round

The main round games took place between October 18, 2011 and March 20, 2012. The first eight teams qualified for the play-offs, the last two, with the exception of VCO Berlin, were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Play-offs

For the first time, the women's play-offs with eight participants took place, the lower-placed team first had home rights. In contrast to the men's Bundesliga, the play-offs were not played in the best-of mode , but with a return leg. If there were different winners, a golden set decided who would go on.
