history

Male youths founded a volleyball department at TSV Vilsbiburg on October 2, 1971, under the direction of Ekkehard Wetzel, which was initially called "gymnastics games". Elmar Stoffler was the first department head. Wipp Hufnagl promoted volleyball at the local secondary school. In 1972 the first women's team came into being, with coach Klaus Deinböck and local players, they made several promotions and in 1976 reached the second Bundesliga. In 1981 the women were promoted to the first Bundesliga with coach Wolfgang Schellinger. The club has signed foreign players and the Czechoslovak coach Beppo Stolarik for the first time. In 1987 the volleyball department was transferred from the main club to the VSV Vilsbiburg club.

In 1990 Vilsbiburg was relegated from the Bundesliga. Because of financial problems, the club withdrew to the district league in 1992. 1995 Klaus-Peter Jung-Kronseder took over the management of the association. He strengthened the team with Vera Bondar and signed the coach Milos Zika . In addition, he ensured better promotion of young talent. In 1998 the association was named Rote Raben Vilsbiburg after the graphic designer Stefan Hulbe had developed the concept. A year later, Vilsbiburg returned to the Bundesliga and the “Rabenpower” fan club was founded. After another year in the second division, 2001 succeeded in being promoted again immediately. In the same year the GmbH was created for the Bundesliga operations.

With coach Mike Schöps and Katja Wühler , Vilsbiburg made it into the top tier of the Bundesliga. In the 2004/05 season , Vilsbiburg was runner-up for the first time. They repeated this success in the following season when they again took second place behind Schweriner SC . In the 2004/05 DVV Cup , the Rote Raben reached the semi-finals against Bayer Leverkusen . A year later they had to admit defeat to the Schweriner SC in the same round. The 2006/07 season was less successful with sixth place in the Bundesliga and the last 16 defeat in the DVV Cup .

With the Argentine coach Guillermo Gallardo , Vilsbiburg became German champions for the first time in 2008 . In the semifinals of the DVV Cup , the team had to admit defeat to eventual cup winner VfB 91 Suhl 2: 3. In 2009 she reached the final and won the DVV Cup for the first time with a 3-2 win against Dresdner SC . In the Bundesliga , the defending champion took second place behind Schwerin. In addition, the Rote Raben were internationally active for the first time and reached the Final Four in the CEV Cup with victories against Asterix Kieldrecht , Jinestra Odessa and VC Kanti Schaffhausen , which they finished in fourth place. In the 2009/10 Bundesliga season , Vilsbiburg was German champion for the second time ahead of the Wiesbaden women with equal points. The team missed defending their title in the DVV Cup due to a defeat in the semi-finals against Suhl. In the Challenge Cup , Bayern had to admit defeat to Belgian rival Asterix Kieldrecht in the round of 16.

In the following European Cup season they played in the CEV Cup . After a successful first round against Știința Bacău , they lost the golden set against Valeriano Alles Menorca in the round of 16 . At national level they reached the semi-finals of the Bundesliga playoffs and the quarter-finals of the DVV Cup . In the 2011/12 Bundesliga season, Vilsbiburg was again defeated by Schwerin SC in the semifinals. There was the same duel in the cup final , which the Rote Raben lost 3-1. In the CEV Cup they first defeated the Ukrainian club Chimik Juschne and then lost to VK Dynamo Krasnodar in the golden set with 14:16. In 2012/13 Vilsbiburg reached the semi-finals of the Bundesliga (against Dresden) and the DVV Cup (against Schwerin). They also played again in the CEV Cup ; there they won against the Albanian champions Minatori Rrëshen and lost in the golden set of the round of 16 against Azerrail Baku .

In the 2013/14 Bundesliga season , Vilsbiburg reached the playoff final, in which Dresden prevailed after three games. The final in the DVV Cup , which the Rote Raben in the Gerry Weber Stadium won 3-0 against the VolleyStars Thuringia, was more successful . For the third time in a row they took part in the CEV Cup . After a successful first round against ZOK Jedinstvo Brčko from Bosnia, a 3-2 home win in the round of 16 against Finnish rivals LP Salo was not enough to advance. The 2014/15 season was worse for the Rote Raben. They had to complete the pre-play-offs as eighth in the main round and were subject to Dresden in the quarter-finals. In the DVV Cup they were eliminated in the semi-finals at the Ladies in Black Aachen . A year later they came sixth in the Bundesliga to the playoff quarter-finals, which they lost to Allianz MTV Stuttgart . They were defeated by the same opponent in the second round of the Cup . The duel also took place in the semi-finals of the DVV Cup 2016/17 and Stuttgart prevailed again.
