Bundesliga

The team of VfB 91 Suhl after reaching third place in the 2011 Bundesliga

In the 2006/07 season, Suhl was able to defeat the new German champions Dresdner SC in the finals and took third place. In the following season, Suhl made it back into the playoffs and finished fourth. In 2008/09 Suhl was seventh, in 2009/10 they came in sixth. The 2010/11 season ended for VfB Suhl by winning the bronze medal. Suhl was eliminated in the semi-finals of the play-offs against the eventual runner-up Dresdner SC only in the "golden set". 2012 Suhl reached the quarter-finals of the play-offs, where they were eliminated against the eventual champions Schweriner SC . The 2012/13 season was not very successful for a completely new team. After tenth place in the main round, it was “out” in the pre-playoff after two defeats against VT Aurubis Hamburg.

On May 23, 2017, the club announced that the license application for the 1st Volleyball Bundesliga would be withdrawn on May 31, 2017. The association justified the step with "a lack of support and an [r] inadequate positioning, especially among those primarily responsible for the city of Suhl" as well as a budget gap for the claim "1. To raise the Bundesliga team to a competitive level ”. At the beginning of August 2017 it became known that the club had reached an agreement with the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen and the city of Meiningen to continue playing in the Multihalle Meiningen , which ultimately secured participation in the German Volleyball Bundesliga 2017/18 .

DVV Cup

In the 2003/04 season, Suhl failed in the second round against Ulm and a year later came out in the quarter-finals against Dresden . In the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons, the women from Thuringia reached the semi-finals, in which they were eliminated first against USC Münster and then against Dresden. In the 2007/08 season they reached the final in the Gerry Weber Stadium for the first time with victories against the second division Erfurt and against the Bundesliga rivals Münster (3-0) and Vilsbiburg (3-2) , where they beat NA. Hamburg won the first title in the club's history. In the 2008/09 season, VfB was eliminated in the round of 16 by a 3-1 home defeat against the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg . In the following year they had to admit defeat to the Dresdner SC in 3: 1 sets in the final. In the 2010/11 season they reached the final again, which they lost 3-0 against Smart Allianz Stuttgart . The club's successful cup history was continued in the 2013/14 season. After two 3-0 victories at VfL Oythe and USC Münster, the German cup final was reached for the fourth time in seven years with a 3-1 success in the semifinals against champions and cup winners Schweriner SC .

European Cup

As the cup winner of the 2007/08 season, VfB Suhl qualified for the European Cup, but waived the right to start due to the foreigner rule planned by the FIVB , which was unclear until the registration deadline.

With third place in the German Championship (2010/11 season), VfB Suhl qualified for the CEV Challenge Cup . After a bye in the first round, VC Tirol Innsbruck was defeated 3-0 in both games in round two. In the second round, VfB Suhl met the Israeli first division club Neve Shaanan Haifa, who had joined from the higher-class CEV Cup . In these two games in January 2012, VfB Suhl was able to keep the upper hand with two 3-0 successes and thus reached the round of 16 in its first European Cup season, in which they met Volley Köniz from Switzerland in February 2012. The first leg in Suhl was decided by Volley Köniz 3-2. However , VfB Suhl was able to win the second leg in Köniz 3: 2 and the “Golden Set” with 15:11. In the quarter-finals, VfB Suhl beat Iller Bankasi Ankara 3-1 and 3-0 before they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Baki Baku.
