The Wolfsgrube sports hall is a multi-purpose hall in the Thuringian city of Suhl . With a capacity of 1,812, it is the largest sports hall in the city. The hall was built and inaugurated in the early 1990s. It is the home of the volleyball team of VfB 91 Suhl .

Furnishing

The sports complex has three small, separable fields that can be combined to form a large playing area. The volleyball field is highlighted in color and is illuminated by a 1,000 lux lighting system. In the hall there are six changing rooms with shower and toilet, as well as a fitness and equipment room. The game results are displayed on two display boards . The grandstand, which seats 1,012 spectators, extends to the edge of the field and is divided into blocks A to D. A separate VIP block has been added to the grandstand area and a lounge area with entertaining seats on the opposite side . There are sanitary facilities on all levels. The hall also has a restaurant that is open for the home games of VfB 91 Suhl. In the anteroom and directly at the grandstand you also have the opportunity to purchase drinks. A press room is also located in the building. Vehicles can be parked in the underground car park, which has space for a total of 161 vehicles. An elevator connects the underground car park directly with the entrance area and the grandstand level. The sports hall has numerous escape routes that are also suitable for large crowds. Escape plans can be found in many parts of the building.

use

The main user of the hall is the sports club VfB 91 Suhl . The Wolfsgrube sports hall is both a training facility and home venue for the first women's team of VfB 91 Suhl, which plays in the volleyball Bundesliga . Since its opening, the facility has developed into the most important sports facility in the city of Suhl. All sporting events such as handball games or indoor soccer tournaments are held in the hall. In addition, the hall is used by the youth departments of Suhl sports clubs and for school sports lessons.

Interior view after the renovation (2019)

The hall has an unobstructed height of 7.56 meters. For use in the volleyball Bundesliga, however, nine meters are required. Therefore, the roof of the hall should be raised. The construction work for it began after the end of the 2016/17 volleyball season. However, there were initially delays in the construction work. For this reason, VfB 91 Suhl had to move to the Multihalle Meiningen for the 2017/18 season . In August 2017, the construction company terminated the contract, which is why a new tender had to be started and there were further delays. It was not until December 2017 that the construction work, the cost of which should amount to 3.2 million euros, could be continued. The construction work was completed in summer 2018.
