Multihalle Meiningen

The Multihalle Meiningen is a "multifunctional hall for sport and culture" in the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen . The sponsors of the Multihalle are the Meininger Sportstättenförderverein eV (SSFV Meiningen) and the city of Meiningen. The building received the Thuringian State Prize for Architecture and Urban Development in 1998 .

Building

The Multihalle was built from 1995 to 1997. The architect was Peter Kulka from Cologne . The community of Meiningen, the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen and the Free State of Thuringia acted as builders . The construction costs amounted to 23.5 million D-Marks.

The hall has a floor area of ​​around 6400 m². It is divided into a three-field hall, which can be divided into three individual fields by sliding hall elements or can be enlarged to a four-field hall or a single large event hall with the inclusion of the event hall, as well as an event hall and a leisure area with catering and fitness center. The spectator seats can be varied with extendable telescopic grandstands.

Sports

The Multihalle is the home ground of the women's volleyball team of VV 70 Meiningen , which once played in the third division and is currently located in the Regionalliga Ost. The hall is used by six other sports clubs from Meiningen, including the handball players from ESV Lok Meiningen, for training purposes and home venues. The volleyball Bundesliga club VfB 91 Suhl used the hall as an alternative home ground in the 2017/18 season.

A well-known sporting event was the "International Celtic Cup in Taekwondo " at the Martial Arts Center Universum Meiningen. Other international events were the 2006 European Cup in Ju-Jutsu (organizer PSV Meiningen) and the 3rd European Cup in Kobudo in 2007 (Universum Meiningen). The German Country and Western Dance Championships have been held here in October since 2012 . The Multihalle is also the venue for Thuringian championships, especially in gymnastics and martial arts as well as in carnival dance sports.

The Multihalle is also used as a sports facility for the neighboring Henfling-Gymnasium and for sports events of all kinds by local schools and clubs.

Connected to the hall is the "bowling center at the Multihalle" with a bowling alley . The first women's and men's teams of the SV 1970 Meiningen club, which is based here, are currently bowling in the Association League, the highest division in Thuringia. The 1st women's team won the Thuringian championship title in 2014 and played 120 Litter Classic in 2014/15 in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Culture

The Multihalle is the venue for the Meininger Kleinkunsttage , carnival events , rock concerts, dance sports events, conferences and music events. In addition to some sporting events in 2005, MDR television has broadcast live an entertainment show with well-known national and international artists from the Multihalle. The Südthüringer Regionalfernsehen (SRF) broadcast monthly from the Multihalle until 2015 with the "sportsbar - the Meininger SRF-Sportlerrunde", a roundtable with athletes and organizers whose topics were current sporting events. The “Fronveste” hotel in Meiningen has since been the new venue for this program.

Every two years, the Meininger Sportstättenförderverein and the daily Meininger Tageblatt host the Meininger Sport and Press Ball in the Multihalle. The athlete and the team from the past two years will be honored from Meiningen. In addition to a show program and the night of the ball, well-known top German athletes present themselves as invited guests.

The “Cabrini” welcome and meeting center for refugees and migrants has existed in the Multihalle since 2015.
