Thuringian State Prize for Architecture and Urban Development
The Thuringian State Prize for Architecture and Urban Development is the highest architectural award of the Free State of Thuringia and has been awarded every two years since 1996 by the Thuringian Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of the Interior and the Thuringian Chamber of Architects .
The prize honors projects that have already been implemented that exemplarily reflect the planning and building culture in Thuringia: innovative urban planning and architectural concepts that document contemporary structural development in the Free State and take advantage of the design possibilities of today's architecture. In addition to the award winner, recognitions are given to some other qualitatively convincing projects.
The forerunner of the State Prize was the Thuringian Architecture Prize, which was under the patronage of the Prime Minister and was awarded by the Thuringian Chamber of Architects and the Landesbausparkasse Hessen-Thüringen. The prize, which was endowed with DM 20,000 at the time, was awarded for the first time on November 30, 1993 for the new technology center in Jena designed by a Jena architects' office.
The prize is endowed with a total of 20,000 euros and is divided between the state prize and the awards. In 2012, for example, the State Prize was awarded 8,000 euros and the three recognitions were each 4,000 euros. The prices are divided equally between the client and the responsible architect . In addition to the certificates awarded, the State Prize consists of a winner's plaque that is attached to the awarded building.
Two first prizes were awarded in 2004 and 2006 and three in 2016.
