Country and western dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term country and western dance encompasses types of dance or dances that have their origins in the United States of America (USA) or were significantly shaped there. The characteristics of these types of dance were influenced by both local conditions and the circumstances in their time of origin.

The following dances are from the USA:

The dance forms used are divided into:

  • Couple dance (free dancing)
  • Partner dance (dancing in pairs with choreography or an announcer, arranged as groups of couples)
  • Line dance (solo dance with fixed choreography, with row-like dance order on the surface)

The selection of music is often based on American country music , but there are also numerous other sources in the entire musical landscape, including American pop music as the basis for dance-technical interpretation.
