Round dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Round Dance is an original American form of ballroom dancing , a couple dance in which the couples to the step prompts the dance conductor ( cuers , Leader ) at the same time on the edge of the dance floor along the dance steps to perform. The resulting shape looks up to circular, depending on the dance floor. This is where the term "round" comes from.

Round dance is choreographed ballroom dance.

The cuer announces the dance steps, which it reads from the sheet with the given choreography (cuesheet), shortly before the execution in the music; similar to the caller in square dance . The cuer of a club is usually also the teacher, who shows and explains new steps and figures to the dancers.

Round dance is danced in many square and round dance clubs around the world; Square and round dancing are often offered together in one program at the numerous dance events, specials and jamborees.

There are many different rhythms in round dance : Bolero , Cha Cha , Foxtrot , Jive , Mambo , Merengue , Paso Doble , Quickstep , Rumba , Samba , Slow Two Step , Tango , Two Step , Waltz , West Coast Swing and a few more. The individual dance steps and figures are divided into phases I to VI by the international umbrella organization ROUNDALAB, depending on the level of difficulty.

First steps

The dancers first learn a basic set of figures in a course called the Round Dance Class , usually starting with Two Step, Waltz, Cha Cha and Rumba. After about a year, the course will be completed with the graduation and the dancers are now entitled to enter clubs and participate in corresponding dance events worldwide.
