The European Association of American Square Dancing Clubs e. V. (EAASDC) is an association of Central European clubs for square dance , round dance , contra dance and clogging .

history

The origin of this association can be traced back to the time it was founded in September 1955:

"Van" Vanderfort (Frankfurt) had the idea of ​​the first European Square Dance Roundup and worked as chairman together with Harold & Thelma Deane (Frankfurt) to organize it. It was held in Bad Wildungen near Frankfurt and all square dancers were invited to take part. A little over 100 came. There is a list of ALL Square Dancers in Europe at this time in the EAASDC files! Here the idea of ​​a European umbrella organization EAASDC was born; Harold Deane was given the task of drafting a constitution as "interim" president, which was to be presented at the "Fall Fling" the following November. - Call Golden, then with the US Air Force in England, was the MC and guest caller.

On November 20, 1955, the first ordinary meeting to elect a board took place in Frankfurt.

Dance branches

Associations that offer the following types of dance are represented in the EAASDC:

EAASDC currently has more than 540 member associations from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovakia, France and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Most of the member associations are based in Germany. There are also collaborations with other national associations. So have z. B. Great Britain, Denmark and Sweden founded their own associations.

Twice a year, major events are invited under the auspices of EAASDC and ECTA. The "Spring Jamboree " always takes place on the second weekend in March . The "fall round up" takes place on the weekend before the first Monday in September. These three-day dance events serve the meeting of all branches and clubs of the EAASDC and dancing. Furthermore, the EAASDC and ECTA also hold general meetings and seminars.

These events are attended by 600 to 1800 dancers.
