Career

Beutlhauser joined the winter sports club in her hometown of St. Gilgen in 1950 and was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association a few years later . Her first international successes came in the winter of 1955/56: She won the slalom on the Jahorina and came third in the giant slalom there. She also came third in the Lenzerheide slalom , where she was also seventh in the downhill and fifth in the combined. In the 1956/57 season, the Beutlhauser achieved their best results in St. Moritz : In the first downhill and in the slalom, she finished eighth, placing her in seventh place in the combined, and in the second downhill she came second. She also reached a podium in the 1957/58 season when she was second in the downhill from Grabs . However , she did not qualify for the 1958 home world championship in Bad Gastein . At the end of February 1958 she became Austrian runner-up in the downhill.

In the winter of 1958/59, Beutlhauser was accepted into the Austrian national team with several top positions. In Saint-Gervais-les-Bains she won the slalom, was third in the downhill and second in the combination. She also came second in the slalom at Puerto de Navacerrada . In the 1959/60 season she was initially without a podium, but still came into the team for the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , where she was used in the downhill, but was canceled after a short drive. Her best results of the season were not achieved until the beginning of April at the Arlberg-Kandahar races in Sestriere , where she was fourth in the downhill and in the slalom and thus third in the combination. Nevertheless, she decided to end her career after that winter.

Herlinde Beutlhauser married Peter Luschan , who, together with Manfred Stelzl, took eleventh place in the sailing competitions of the 1972 Summer Olympics in the star boat. Her son Michael Luschan , like his father, also became a sailor and together with Stefan Lindner and Georg Stadler took 19th place in Soling at the 1992 Summer Olympics .
