history

At the end of the 1990s, the women of VC Straubing joined the FTSV and started together in the Regionalliga Südost. The women reached the 2nd Bundesliga in 2005/06 almost on the march. Since this season, FTSV Volleyball GmbH has been organizing and responsible for game operations under the management of Albert Riedle and since 2009 also with Heiko Koch, who has been organizing the operational business since then and is active as a manager and responsible for sponsor acquisition and support.

In May 2011 they were promoted to the second division. In the 2011/12 season , the team around coach Mathias Eichinger and, after his dismissal, interim coach Heiko Koch reached 11th place.

Before the 2012/13 season , the first team was renamed “NawaRo Straubing” as a commitment to the region - especially Straubing , the city of renewable raw materials. The new coach was Andreas Urmann in November 2012. Born in Chemnitz, he previously trained in the 2nd division at his home club Fighting Kangaroos Chemnitz . The Straubing women took sixth place at the end of the season.

In the 2013/14 season , NawaRo Straubing was champion of the 2nd Bundesliga South, but renounced promotion for economic reasons. After the renewed championship in 2014/15 , NawaRo was promoted to the Bundesliga, where it was relegated in 2015/16 after deducting points due to a lack of profitability evidence and had to apply for insolvency proceedings for the gaming company in March 2016.

In March 2016, the NawaRo Spielbetriebs Unternehmensgesellschaft was founded, which was entrusted with the continuation of games in the volleyball Bundesliga. In the 2016/17 season, NawaRo Straubing competed in the second women's volleyball league south and reached third place in the table. The following season ended Straubing in second place behind the VC Printus Offenburg . Since Offenburg decided not to be promoted to the upper house of volleyball, NaWaRo Straubing will return to the 1st Bundesliga for the 2018/19 season.

More teams

In addition to NawaRo Straubing, the FTSV Straubing currently has three other women's teams (regional league, district league and district class) as well as numerous youth teams at the start.

Straubing has been a Bavarian volleyball performance base since July 2013.
