Julia Schaefer (born July 3, 1996 in Caracas , Venezuela ) is a German volleyball player .

Career

Julia Schaefer first played tennis and, since she was ten, volleyball in her home country at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In 2011 she came to the volleyball boarding school at USC Münster , where she first played in the junior team in the second Bundesliga north . Since 2013, the outside attacker has been in the Bundesliga . In 2015 she was the climber of the year in the rankings of German volleyball . Due to a knee operation, Schaefer was out for the entire 2015/16 Bundesliga season. In 2016 she switched to runner-up Allianz MTV Stuttgart , with whom she won the VBL Supercup . In the 2018/19 season, Schaefer was German champion with Stuttgart. For the 2019/20 season she was loaned by Allianz MTV Stuttgart to NawaRo Straubing , with whom she won a PlayOff place for the first time in the club's history. On April 9, 2020, the player announced an injury-related end to her career.

In 2013 Julia Schaefer finished seventh with the German youth national team at the U18 European championships and eighth with the junior women’s national team at the U23 world championships. In 2015, she played in the senior national team .

Julia Schaefer's father Dirk was a national volleyball player and won two German championships with Bayer Leverkusen.
