history

Logo VC Stuttgart

In 2007 VC Stuttgart was founded as a cooperation between the clubs MTV Stuttgart and TSV Georgii Allianz Stuttgart . The first and second women's teams played until 2010 under the name "Allianz Volley Stuttgart", until 2012 "Smart Allianz Stuttgart" and since 2012 as Allianz MTV Stuttgart . The playing rights of these two teams in the Bundesliga and in the 2nd Bundesliga South had previously been held by MTV Stuttgart. The junior division was taken over in 2013 by the newly founded MTV Stuttgart volleyball academy, for which the VC Stuttgart is still a sponsoring association. Since 2013, all gaming operations have been under the umbrella of MTV Stuttgart.

Bundesliga

The VC Stuttgart managed the promotion from the second league south and played in the 2008/09 season for the first time in the Bundesliga, where the team finished sixth. In 2010 and 2011 it came in fifth place. In 2012 , Stuttgart reached the quarter-finals of the play-offs, in which they were eliminated against Dresdner SC . A year later the club had to admit defeat to 1. VC Wiesbaden in the same round . In the 2013/14 season , Stuttgart played ninth in the main round in the play-offs and lost there against the Volleys Stars Thuringia .

After an almost complete replacement of the squad took place in the 2014/15 season , they finished second in the main round. In the play-offs, the team made it to the final, where they lost 3-0 to Dresdner SC . In the 2015/16 season , Allianz MTV Stuttgart took second place in the table and, as in the 2014/15 season, was runner-up. In the play-offs, the club met Dresdner SC again in the final. The decision was made only in the fifth game in Dresden in favor of Dresdner SC, after both teams had previously won both home games.

In the 2016/17 season , the club made it into the final for the third time in a row, having previously been beaten in the play-offs of USC Münster and Dresdner SC. SSC Palmberg Schwerin won all three play-off games in the final, so Allianz MTV Stuttgart was runner-up again.

In the 2017/18 season , the club finished the main round for the first time as first in the table. In the play-offs the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg and the ladies in Black Aachen were beaten. In the final, SSC Palmberg Schwerin again won all three play-off games, making Allianz MTV Stuttgart runner-up for the fourth time in a row.

Also in the 2018/19 season , the club reached first place in the main round. In the play-offs, VC Wiesbaden and the ladies in Black Aachen were initially beaten before the final duel with SSC Palmberg Schwerin. In a final series of five games, Stuttgart won the three home games and became German champions for the first time with a 3-2 win on May 11, 2019. The best player of the season was Krystal Rivers.

The 2019/20 season was canceled prematurely due to the corona pandemic on March 13, 2020. The main round was not played to the end either, so there is no German champion in the current season. The club finished second in the table behind Schwerin with one game still to go. At the time the season ended, Krystal Rivers was the player with the most gold MVP awards (7).

DVV Cup

In the 2010/11 season , Stuttgart reached the cup final in Halle / Westphalia for the first time and won the title 3-0 against VfB 91 Suhl .

As the defending champions, the Swabians reached the semi-finals in 2011/12 , which were lost to Vilsbiburg.

The same result was there in the following season against 1. VC Wiesbaden .

The 2013/14 DVV Cup ended for Stuttgart in the quarter-finals in Schwerin. The second team, which had also qualified, was eliminated in the round of 16 against USC Münster .

In the 2016 DVV Cup final, Allianz MTV Stuttgart lost to Dresdner SC after five sets with 2: 3 in a tie-break.

At the final in 2017 in the SAP Arena in Mannheim , Stuttgart won 3-2 against Schwerin SC .

They were eliminated in the semifinals against 1. VC Wiesbaden in the 2017/18 season .

On February 24, 2019, Allianz MTV Stuttgart met SSC Palmberg Schwerin in the final of the DVV Cup 2019 , after the Dresdner SC, the 1st VC Wiesbaden and the Ladies in Black Aachen had previously been beaten. With a 3-0 victory, SSC Palmberg Schwerin won the DVV Cup for the first time since 2013.

Stuttgart also made it into the final of the DVV Cup 2020 in the following cup season . Previously, Stuttgart had beaten Straubing, Erfurt and Schwerin in their home hall. In a close and gripping match against Dresdner SC, the Stuttgart team lost 3: 2 despite 5 match balls in the 4 set.

VBL Supercup

For the first time in the 2016/17 season, the VBL Supercup with two women's teams took place on October 16, 2016 in the Berlin Mercedes-Benz Arena . Allianz MTV Stuttgart as vice-champions met the German champions Dresdner SC. Allianz MTV Stuttgart won 3-1 in front of 5,624 spectators, making them the first German women's volleyball Supercup winner.

By winning the DVV Cup 2017, Allianz MTV Stuttgart was automatically qualified for the VBL Supercup 2017. As in the 2017 DVV Cup final, the club met the German champions SSC Palmberg Schwerin. The VBL Supercup 2017 was held in the TUI-Arena Hannover on October 8th, 2017: SSC Palmberg Schwerin won the Supercup 2017.

As the German champion of the 2018/19 season, Allianz MTV Stuttgart was also eligible to play for the VBL Supercup 2019 and met the cup winner SSC Palmberg Schwerin there. The event took place on October 20, 2019 in the TUI-Arena Hannover. Stuttgart lost against Schwerin with 1: 3.

European Cup (Champions League / CEV Cup)

In the 2011/12 season, the Stuttgart women competed internationally as the German cup winners for the first time and were only eliminated in the quarter-finals of the CEV Cup against Robur Tiboni Urbino with 0: 3 and 1: 3.

Due to the second place in the play-offs 2014/15, Stuttgart took part in the Volleyball Champions League 2015/16 . In Pool A, the club met Azerrail Baku , Dynamo Kazan and Lokomotiv Baku . The Stuttgart women won only two of the six games and were eliminated from the competition. Third place in the group A table enabled participation in the CEV Cup . There the club met the Russian club Dynamo Krasnodar , but lost both games 3-0, ending their participation at European level.

In the 2016/17 season, Allianz MTV Stuttgart played in the CEV Cup and won the round of 32 both at home and away 3-0 against the Estonian champions Kohila VC. In the second round, the club met the champions from the Czech Republic, VK Agel Prostějov , with whom the former Stuttgart setter Mareike Hindriksen was under contract. Both games were won. In the quarter-finals, Stuttgart was eliminated from the reigning Champions League winner VBC Pomi Casalmaggiore (Italy) and thus ended the excursion in the European CEV Cup.

The club also played internationally in the CEV Cup in 2017/18 . As runner-up, Allianz MTV Stuttgart first played in the main round against VK UP Olomuc and won both games (0: 3/3: 0). In the quarter-finals there was a German duel against Dresdner SC . Both games were won by Stuttgart (0: 3/3: 1). In the semifinals, Stuttgart met Minchanka Minsk , but lost both games 2: 3 and 3: 2 (golden set). In the final table, Allianz MTV Stuttgart landed among the best 4 clubs after Eczacıbaşı VitrA Istanbul (CEV Cup winner 2018) and Minchanka Minsk.

In the 2018/19 season, Allianz MTV Stuttgart qualified as runner-up for the group stage of the Champions League . This was preceded by two qualifying rounds against Sliedrecht Sport from the Netherlands, which the club won 3-0 in both legs. The game against last year's Champions League runner -up CS Volei Alba-Blaj from Romania was lost 3-1 on the road, but was won 3-0 at home. The Golden Set was also won, so that Allianz MTV Stuttgart moved into the group stage. In Pool A, the club met the 2018 Champions League winner VakıfBank Istanbul , the French champion Béziers Volley and the Bulgarian champion Maritza Plovdiv . With a 3-1 win in Plovdiv, the club reached the quarter-finals in the Champions League for the first time in its history. The team was eliminated there against the eventual Champions League winner Igor Gorgonzola Novara , making it one of the eight best women's teams in Europe.

In 2019/2020, Allianz MTV Stuttgart took the only German starting place in the women in the Champions League as German champions . The opponents and groups were drawn on October 25, 2019 in Sofia: Stuttgart's opponents included the reigning CL winner Igor Gorgonzola Novara (Italy), LKS Lodz (Poland) and Khimik Yuzhny (Ukraine). The club was once again among the eight best in Europe and met in the quarter-finals against the club world champion and Italian champion Imoco Volley Conegliano. The first leg was lost 3-0, the second leg in Italy no longer took place due to the spread of the corona virus. Stuttgart renounced the game due to the associated economic and health risks, so that it was rated 3-0 for Imoco Volley Conegliano.

Youth work

The youth work took place in VC Stuttgart until 2013 and was then taken over by the MTV Stuttgart volleyball academy. The volleyball departments of the two parent clubs MTV Stuttgart and TSV Georgii Allianz Stuttgart are available for popular sports and leisure activities . The VC Stuttgart participated in the model "cooperation school / club" in volleyball. The coaches gave volleyball lessons in the elementary schools and high schools in Stuttgart-Vaihingen and worked in the part-time boarding school of the Schickhardt high school. In addition, in cooperation with the Volleyball Landesverband Württemberg (VLW), two teams from VC Stuttgart started as VLW base teams.
