Krystal Rivers (born May 23, 1994 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American volleyball player . The diagonal attacker became French champion. With her current club Allianz MTV Stuttgart she became German champion and twice reached the cup finals.

Career

Rivers initially did sports to combat her physical limitations. She was born with tethered spinal cord syndrome and had both hip joints broken as a baby . By the age of 15, she had already had around twenty operations. She began her career at Ramsay High School in her hometown, where she was initially active in tennis . From 2012 to 2016 she studied at the University of Alabama and played on the University team Rolltide. In January 2014, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma of lymph nodes in the neck, chest and hips. After half a year, she overcame cancer and continued her career. In the 2017/18 season, the diagonal attacker competed in the French league for Béziers Volley and won the national championship with the team.

She then moved to the German Bundesliga club Allianz MTV Stuttgart . With the club, she made it to the final in the 2018/19 DVV Cup , which was lost to SSC Palmberg Schwerin . In the playoff final against the same opponent, she became German champion. The diagonal attacker was personally recognized as the league's MVP . In the DVV-Pokal 2019/20 she reached the final again, which Stuttgart lost against Dresdner SC . When the Bundesliga season was canceled shortly before the playoffs, the team was in second place in the table. Rivers will also play for Stuttgart in the 2020/21 season.
