AGIL Volley Novara is an Italian women's volleyball club from Novara , which takes part in the top Italian league, the A1 series , and the Volleyball Champions League under the sponsor name of Igor Gorgonzola Novara .
history
The association was founded in 1984 as Società AGIL Trecate , where AGIL stands for amicizia, gioia, impegno e lealtà ( German friendship, joy, commitment and loyalty ). Until 1996, the club took part in regional competitions before moving up from the B2 series to the third-class B1 series. 1998 succeeded with the first place in the group A of the series B1 the promotion to the second division, the series A2.
A year later, AGIL was relegated back to the B1 series, but was able to remain in the second division due to the non-promotion of other teams. At the end of the 2000/01 season, after the second place in the main round, the championship of the A2 series followed and the associated promotion to the top division, the A1 series. Novara also won the A2 series cup competition.
From 2001 to 2003 in the A1 series, the association was called Asystel Novara . In 2003 they reached the playoff final of the A1 series and won the CEV Cup . Then the club decided to concentrate on youth work again. They called themselves AGIL Volley again and started in Series C. The professional volleyball department was taken over by the new Asystel Volley Novara club .
After several years in the lower leagues, he was promoted to Serie A1 in 2013. Igor Gorgonzola Novara has been the new sponsor name since then . They won the national championship in 2017 and the cup in 2015, 2018 and 2019. Novara also starts in the European CEV Cup and the Champions League .
On May 18, 2019, the Champions League was won in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.
