The 2019/20 season of the Volleyball Champions League began on October 8, 2019 and should end with the final on May 16, 2020. The German participant was Allianz MTV Stuttgart . As in the previous year, the final was to be played together with the men's final as “Super Finals” in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the competition was suspended for an indefinite period in March 2020.
The first two rounds were played in the knockout system , whereby not all places were occupied. The two winners of the second round qualified for the group stage. There 20 teams played in five groups of four in the mode everyone against everyone . Each team competed at home and away against each of the three opponents. There were three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two for a 3-2 win and one point for a 3-2 defeat. The five group winners and the three best runners-up reached the quarter-finals, which are played with home and away legs. This also applies to the semi-finals. The final will be played in one game.
The quarter-finals between F. Istanbul and Novara as well as Scandicci and E. Istanbul have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic . The two games were supposed to be moved to Maribor , but were then postponed indefinitely. In view of this situation, Stuttgart waived the second leg against Conegliano after the first leg.
