The volleyball department of SC Potsdam was founded in 1996. The first women's team has played in the first division since 2009 .

Spain's Guillermo Naranjo Hernández , who replaced the Italian Davide Carli , has been the head coach since December 2018 . Hernández's assistant is the Italian Riccardo Boieri. The team doctor Henning Leunert and the physiotherapists Thaddeus Schirmer, Tom Spielhagen and Enrico Stahlschmidt are responsible for medical care. The team manager is Eugen Benzel. Toni Rieger works as a sports director.

history

Season 2004/05 to 2008/09 - promotion to the first Bundesliga

In the 2004/05 season, SC Potsdam rose to second place in the Regionalliga Nordost in the second Bundesliga. In the first year in the second division, the team was able to occupy fifth place. In the 2006/07 season, the Potsdam champions of the second Bundesliga North. However, the club refrained from promotion to the first division. In the DVV-Pokal they lost 3-0 to USC Münster at home in the round of 16 .

The 2007/08 season ended the SC Potsdam again in fifth place, before they were again champions in the following season and this time rose to the first division. In the DVV-Pokal they were eliminated in the round of 16 with a 3-0 defeat against Schwerin SC .

2009/10 season to date

The squad for the 2009/10 season consisted of 14 players. After the promotion, Sydlik from Köpenicker SC and five players from VC Olympia Berlin ( Formazin , Grohmann , Hinderlich, Laboreur , Weihenmaier ) came to Potsdam. Kleefisch and Zimmer went to Köpenicker SC, Großner switched to beach volleyball. Dörfler and Plaschke also left the association. The chief trainer was Michael Merten , who was supported by Volker Knedel. The physiotherapists Anja Schäfer, Ulrike Müller and Ulli Meyer took care of the medical care. In the 2009/10 season , Potsdam finished tenth as the best of the three first division climbers and thus managed to stay in the league.

The squad of the first division team for the 2010/11 season consisted of thirteen players. Formazin, Fröhlich and Landvogt left the club, Iwansky and Rühl were re-signed. In February 2011, the previous assistant coach Volker Knedel took over the training of the first women's team from Michael Merten. At the end of the 2010/11 season , SC Potsdam again finished tenth.

In the 2011/12 season, the squad of the first division team consisted of eleven players. Alberto Salomoni was signed as the new head coach . In December 2011, the Serbian Olga Raonić replaced the released Croatian Simona Usic . At the end of the 2011/12 season, Potsdam finished eleventh and had secured relegation again. In the DVV Cup they lost 3-1 to Schweriner SC and were eliminated in the second round.

The team for the 2012/13 season consisted of twelve players (five nations). The departures of Stucki , Raonić, Tillman , Grohmann, Schlechter , Weihenmaier and Bognar contrasted with the newcomers from Radzuweit , Dörfler , Engel , Ćutuk , Muri , Fanzini and Jelić . In addition, there was the long-term injured Hinderlich . The coach was still Alberto Salomoni, the Italian Andrea Ebana was hired as an assistant coach . In the round of 16 of the DVV Cup, the Potsdam women were eliminated 2: 3 at Alemannia Aachen . At the end of the Bundesliga top round, the Potsdamer took eighth place. In the pre-playoffs, the Potsdam women were successful against Köpenicker SC and thus qualified for the playoffs, in which they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Schwerin SC.

Potsdam came sixth in the playoffs in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season , but lost to the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg in the quarter-finals after two games. In the DVV Cup , Potsdam had to admit defeat to Dresdner SC in the round of 16 . In the 2014/15 season, Potsdam reached the playoff quarter-finals as fifth in the Bundesliga , which the SC lost after three games against 1. VC Wiesbaden . In the DVV Cup , Potsdam also made it to the quarter-finals and lost to USC Münster . In the following season, the DVV Cup for the Brandenburgers was already over in the round of 16 with a defeat against VfB 91 Suhl . As seventh in the main Bundesliga round , they prevailed in the pre-playoffs against the ladies in Black Aachen and had to admit defeat to Schwerin SC in the quarter-finals .

The games of SC Potsdam have been played since January 2012 in the MBS Arena Potsdam in the “Luftschiffhafen” sports park.

In total, volleyball is played in more than ten teams in the department, primarily for women, in the various leagues in Potsdam and the state of Brandenburg.
