Michael Merten

Michael Merten (born January 12, 1969 in Planegg near Munich ) is a German volleyball trainer .

Career

Merten acquired the A-trainer license in 1993 and became a certified trainer in 1997. From 1997 to 2002 he was the men's national coach of Liechtenstein . In 2002/03 he coached the women from SSK Feldkirch and led the team through the cup final to the European Cup. After that, Merten was the head coach of the Bundesliga women from VC 68 Eichwalde . From 2005 to 2006 he worked for the league competitor Rote Raben Vilsbiburg as a junior coach, sports director and head coach. From 2007 to 2009 he coached the Bundesliga men from VC Bad Dürrenberg / Spergau . Then he was head coach at the women's Bundesliga club SC Potsdam for two years . In 2011 he led Remat Zalau's men to the Romanian championship and the Champions League . His next activities were as assistant coach at the DVV juniors and coach at the Austrian first division club VC Amstetten . In 2013/14 Merten coached the German second division SVG Lüneburg , with whom he was promoted to the first division. In 2011 and from 2014 to 2016 - alongside Michael Warm as head coach - he was assistant coach of the men's national team in Austria . In Greece he coached the first division team Pamvohaikos in 2014/15 and Orestiada in 2016. He has been the men's national coach for German sitting volleyball players since 2017.

Merten was also President of the Association of German Volleyball Trainers from 2010 to 2015 .
