The 2nd women's volleyball league is the second highest division in German women's volleyball .

This competition is played in two leagues (North and South), there is a game round with a return game. The first-placed team (champions) of these relays will be promoted to the 1st Bundesliga , the two last-placed teams will be relegated to the third leagues. With increased relegation from the 1st Bundesliga to the same season of the 2nd Bundesliga, there may be an additional relegation.

The champions of the four third leagues are promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. If there are more places available in the 2nd Bundesliga or the champions of the third division do not want to be promoted, the second and third placed in the third division can also be promoted.
