The VC Essen-Borbeck is the highest class volleyball club in the city of Essen in the women's area. The first team of the VCB plays under the name VC Allbau Essen in the Third League West. The VC Essen-Borbeck was created in 1979 from the volleyball department of Juspo Frintrop. After there were difficulties between the main club from Unterfrintrop and the volleyball area, some undaunted people founded the 1st VC DJK Essen-Borbeck as an independent volleyball club. Some of the founding members are still active in the VCB, the Hobby Men division. In the men's but especially in the women's area, the VCB was soon one of the most powerful clubs in Essen. The 1st women's team played in the 2nd Bundesliga for several years before financial reasons led to a withdrawal into the association league. In 1985 the VC Essen-Borbeck merged with the neighboring club LSG Essen for sporting reasons. This is how the club name was created 1. VC DJK LSG Essen-Borbeck 1979 eV The concentration on the women's area inevitably led to the fact that at the end of the 1980s the women's area got more and more the upper hand in the club and the men's area was pushed back, which ultimately led to the end the 1990s left the club's last men's team to take part in the game, heading for TuS 84/10. The good cooperation with the schools and intensive youth work is reflected today in the membership structure of VC Essen-Borbeck. The association has around 200 members. The youngest are 8 and the oldest are 70 years old. The main focus is on the women's performance area.

1. Women's team

In the 2005/06 season the VCB was able to move up to the 2nd Bundesliga with the first women's team and also hold this class, in the second season they were worried about staying in the league until the end, but this also succeeded again. In the 2007/08 season, a new sponsor was found in Essen-based Allbau GmbH, so that the 1st team will operate under the name VC Allbau Essen from now on. VC Allbau Essen has been playing in the Regionalliga West since the 2009/10 season. In the 2015/16 season, the team rose to the third division west as champions of the Regionalliga West and took 3rd place. The first team played as the first athletic successor in the 2017/2018 season in the 2. Bundesliga North Women and was relegated straight away, only to be promoted again a year later. In the 19/20 season they finished 7th at the end of the season (Corona) and will start again in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 20/21 season.
