The BSV Ostbevern (officially: Ballsportverein Ostbevern 1923 eV ) is a sports club from Ostbevern in the Warendorf district . The women's volleyball team has been playing in the 2nd Bundesliga North since 2019 .

history

The association was founded on May 1, 1923. In addition to volleyball, the BSV Ostbevern also offers badminton , popular sports , unicycling , soccer , women’s and men’s gymnastics , handball , judo , karate , children 's gymnastics , running , swimming , bowling and table tennis .

volleyball

The volleyball department was founded in 1972. In 2013, the female A-youth became West German runner-up behind USC Münster and qualified for the German championship . Three years later, the first women's team rose to the 3rd League West , where the team was runner-up behind Sportfreunde Aligse in the 2017/18 season , one point behind . A year later , the Ostbevenerinnen were again runner-up, this time behind the second team of USC Münster. Since this renounced promotion, the BSV rose to the 2nd Bundesliga North.

With Wiebke Silge , the club produced a German national player. Lena Ottens became the U-18 European champion in beach volleyball in 2014 . The home games are played in the Beverhalle.

Soccer

The women's team of BSV Ostbevern has been playing in the fourth-class Westfalenliga since 2007 . The greatest success here was the third place in the 2014/15 season, in which the BSV was 23 points behind champion Arminia Bielefeld . In the Westphalia Cup in 2018, the Ostbevenerinnen reached the semi-finals, where the team failed, however, 3: 5 after penalties at the regional division Germania Hauenhorst . The BSV was still leading until the 86th minute of the game, but then had to accept the equalizer.

The men's team of BSV Ostbevern has been playing in the district league A in the Münster-Warendorf soccer district since relegation in 2020. The highlight of the men's team was a friendly against FC Schalke 04 for national players Fritz Szepan and Ernst Kuzorra on July 14, 1946. In front of more than 4,000 spectators, Schalke won 13-0, who received a truck load of potatoes as an inaugural bonus . Between 1950 and 1952 and from 1955 to 1957 the men of BSV Ostbevern played in the district class. This was later renamed the District League. The BSV men belonged to this league from 1986 to 1988, in the 1994/95 season and from 1997 to 2000.

BSV Ostbevern produced a Bundesliga player with Sophia Kleinherne and a third division player with Alexander Langlitz . The local researcher Heinrich Eickholt worked as a football lobman at BSV Ostbevern. The home ground of the BSV footballers is the Beverstadion.
