A flight accident involving Aerosucre Colombia near Barranquilla occurred on April 26, 1989. A Sud Aviation Caravelle 11R of the Colombian cargo airline Aerosucre crashed into a residential area shortly after taking off from Barranquilla airport . 7 people were killed in the accident.

The aircraft involved in the accident was a Sud Aviation Caravelle 11R with the serial number 219, which had completed its first flight on June 1, 1967 with the test identification F-WJAK, before it was delivered to Air Afrique on July 17, 1967 , where it was with the aircraft registration TU-TCY and baptized in the name Yaoundé . The machine was then sold to Kabo Air in 1984 , where it was registered with the aircraft registration 5N-AWQ and named Sir AB Tafana Balewa . The Caravelle was sold to South America in July 1987, where it went into service at Aerosucre Colombia with the aircraft registration HK-3325X.

The twin- engined narrow -body aircraft was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7B engines.

There was a three-person crew on board, consisting of the master, first officer and flight engineer. A load master and a ground technician also sat on the plane as passengers.

The machine's cargo consisted of a VW Beetle and several tons of fresh meat.

Shortly after the machine started, the load slipped. This shifted the machine's center of gravity. The angle of attack increased and there was a stall . The pilots lost control of the aircraft and the Caravelle crashed into a residential area. The five people on board and two people in the residential area were killed.

It is the worst of the Aerosucre incident.
