history

The association league was introduced in Westphalia with the game year 1981/82. It replaced the national league introduced in 1978 as the highest league, in which "Westfalenmeister" titles were awarded even then. With the introduction of the Regionalliga West in 1985/86, the Westphalia League was replaced as the highest league instance and at the same time the first cross-association league was established in German women's football. With the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1990 the association league was only in third class, with the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga in 2004 in fourth class. In 2008 the name was changed to Westfalenliga.

mode

The Westfalenliga consists of 17 teams in the 2020/21 season. The master rises to the Regionalliga West. The three last-placed teams are relegated to the national league.
