Women's soccer

history

On June 7, 1975, a women's team played for the first time with the SG. The women's football division was finally officially established in 1977. In 1980 they made it to the district league. A year later they even made it through to the national league, which they belonged to until 1989. The descent was followed by a direct ascent.

Two years later, he was promoted to the association league. After three years, however, you had to go down again. In 1995, the year of relegation, they lost 3-1 to the BSV Müssen in the Westphalia Cup final. Despite the defeat, SGL took part in the DFB Cup for the first time. In the first round there was a 17-0 defeat against Bundesliga club Grün-Weiß Brauweiler .

At the turn of the millennium, he returned to the association league. Two years later, after a 2-0 win over Westfalia Hagen, they made the leap into the regional league.

In 2004 SGL was included in the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga. In the same year they reached the final of the Westphalia Cup for the second time. Against FC Gütersloh 2000 you had to accept a 2-7 defeat. Again you could take part in the DFB Cup. Via the stations SV 1896 Großdubrau and Tennis Borussia Berlin you reached the second round. There they were eliminated by a 7-1 defeat at 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .

In 2005 the U17 girls' team reached the final round of the West German Championship and finished fourth.

On the last match day of the 2005/06 season, the 1st team had to accept relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga. After two years they managed to rise again. Second place was sufficient for this, as the master SG Essen-Schönebeck II had not applied for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga.

In 2007 the U17 rose to the Westphalia League.

In the 2007/2008 season, the 1st team rose again to the 2nd North Women's Bundesliga.

The 2008/2009 season was relegated to the 1st team in the regional league.

The 2010/2011 season was relegated to the 1st team in the Westphalia League.
