The Sportfreunde Siegen are a German football club from Siegen . For the 1996/97 season, Sportfreunde Siegen took over the women's division from TSV Siegen . The women's team of Sportfreunde Siegen could not build on the great successes of TSV Siegen. Moving into the DFB Cup final in the 1999/2000 season is the greatest success for sports fans.
history
1996 to 2001: As successor in the Bundesliga
Before the 1996/97 season, Sportfreunde Siegen took over the women's division of TSV Siegen after TSV won the German championship in the 1995/96 season. As the “defending champion” you finished third in the Bundesliga North and thus missed qualifying for the final round of the German championship. In the DFB Cup, the team was able to reach the quarter-finals and lost there against FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen with 0-2.
For the 1997/98 season the Bundesliga reform took place, so that there is only one season with 12 teams in the Bundesliga. In the first season in the new format the Sportfreunde reached the 5th place and in the DFB Cup they reached the semi-finals, where they lost 2: 3 after extra time against FSV Frankfurt . In the following seasons, the team collected a total of 37 points from victories and took third place. In the DFB-Pokal they lost against FCR 2001 Duisburg with 1: 4.
In the 1999/2000 season they were able to achieve third place with 42 points and in the DFB Cup they celebrated the greatest success in the club's history. With victories against SpVgg Oberaußem-Fortuna , SC 07 Bad Neuenahr , WSV Wolfsburg and Grün-Weiß Brauweiler , the winners reached the cup final. In the Berlin Olympic Stadium the team to defeated Silke Rottenberg against 1. FFC Frankfurt .
2000 to 2004: double relegation and re-promotion
In the 2000/01 season the Sportfreunde Siegen took eighth place, their worst position since the introduction of the single-track Bundesliga. Although eighth place is not a relegation place, Sportfreunde had to relegate from Siegen because the club did not receive a license for the upcoming Bundesliga season. In the round of 16 of the DFB-Pokal was the last stop after a 10:10 defeat against 1. FFC Frankfurt .
Due to the forced relegation, the women's team of Sportfreunde had to compete victories in the 2001/02 season in the second -rate regional football league West . In the first regional league season they finished second behind SpVgg Oberaußem-Fortuna with 50 points and thus missed the qualification for the promotion round to the Bundesliga. As last year's Bundesliga team, the winners were qualified for the DFB Cup and met FCR 2001 Duisburg in the first round . The game was lost with 0: 9. Sportfreunde Siegen was unable to qualify for the next season due to a defeat in the final of the Westphalia Cup against FC Gütersloh 2000 .
In the following regional league season the Sportfreunde Siegen could not match the performance of the previous season and only collected 11 points. They finished 13th and were relegated to the Westphalia Association. In the association league you became runner-up and could thus be promoted to the Regionalliga West.

2004 to 2008: Establishment in the regional league
As a newcomer, the women's team of Sportfreunde Siegen secured sixth place in the Regionalliga West in the 2004/05 season and in the following season they confirmed sixth place and established themselves in the Regionalliga. In the 2006/07 season they further confirmed the results from the previous year with an eighth place and in the 2007/08 season with a seventh place.
2008 to 2010: relegation and relegation
After establishing themselves in the regional league in the previous seasons, the team only collected 29 points in the 2008/09 season and finished in 12th place. As a result, the team had to cope with a relegation.
In contrast to the last season in the association league, the Siegenerinnen was able to win the league this time and thus achieved immediate promotion to the regional league. During the season, the team did not lose a game and in the end there were 25 wins and one draw.
2010 to 2015: Re-establishment in the regional league
In the 2010/11 season, the sports fans from Siegen caused a sensation in the regional league and finished third at the end of the season. In the Westfalenpokal, the team reached the cup final and missed qualifying for the DFB Cup with a 4-0 defeat against VfL Bochum .
In the following season they were able to perform from the previous season by fourth place in the table. In Westphalia they reached the final again and met Germania Hauenhorst there . With a 3-2 win they secured qualification for the DFB Cup.
In the 2012/13 season they could not confirm the strong performances from the two previous seasons and were able to secure relegation with ninth place and 29 points. In the DFB Cup, the Sportfreunde Siegen team met second division club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and they lost the game in their own stadium 2-0. In the Westfalenpokal they reached the cup final for the third time in a row and met VfL Bochum there again. Although the team lost the game 1: 2, they qualified for the DFB-Pokal because VfL Bochum was directly qualified for the DFB-Pokal through promotion to the second Bundesliga.
In the following season, the team with sixth place was able to play a stronger season. Things didn't go so well in the DFB Cup and the team was eliminated in the first round by a 9-0 defeat against second division club SC Sand . In the 2014/15 season, Sportfreunde von Siegen played again against relegation and reached the goal of relegation with 10th place.
Since 2015: Relegation to the association league
In the 2015/16 season the Sportfreunde Siegen fought again against relegation. With 23 points and twelfth place in the Regionalliga West , he could not be prevented, so that the team has been competing in the Westphalia League since the 2016/17 season .

Second team
In the 2008/09 season played the second team of the district league and after three seasons in the district league they rose to the district league. The second team of the Sportfreunde was able to win the league with a total of 65 points and managed to march through from the district league to the state league.
In their first regional league seasons in the 2012/13 season, the winners secured 11th place to stay in the league and in the second season they were able to further establish themselves in the regional league. At the end of the season, the eighth place was to book and in the 2015/16 season they secured the league with the 14th place. In the following season they only reached 15th place and were relegated to the district league.
In the 2017/18 season, the second women's team was withdrawn from play in the district league.
