The 1998/1999 Bundesliga was the ninth season of the women's Bundesliga. For the first time the 1. FFC Frankfurt , which emerged from the SG Praunheim during the season , became German champions. Before the start of the season, Birgit Prinz made a spectacular move from local rivals FSV Frankfurt . Together with FC Rumeln-Kaldenhausen , 1. FFC dominated the Bundesliga. The dethroned defending champion only reached fifth place. Overall, the season was pretty balanced. With the FFC Heike Rheine a founding member of the Bundesliga had to leave the top division. Rheine was accompanied by the newly promoted SC Freiburg .
