The club became known through the women's football department , which played in the Bundesliga for two years .

The department was launched in 1977. In 1982 the first success was achieved with promotion to the Landesliga Nord. A year later, the club rose to the Bundesliga for the first time. With only one win and two draws, however, the immediate relegation followed. After the promotion, the team finished eighth in the southern group, but failed in the relegation to the single-track Bundesliga. After a few years in the league, the club was one of the founding members of the Regionalliga Süd . Although they managed to stay up in the league, the team was withdrawn at the end of the season. Since then, the team has been back in the group league. After playing in a game community with SV Tann / Rhön since the 2013/14 season, the women's football department's game operations were completely stopped after the 2015/16 season.
