The SV Höntrop (full name: Spielverein Höntrop 1916 eV ) is a football club from the Bochum district of Höntrop . Between 1933 and 1939 the club belonged to the then top division, the Gauliga Westfalen .

history

On August 8, 1916, a football department was founded in the Höntrop-Vöde youth armed forces , which in December 1916 became independent as the 1916 Höntrop ball game club . On March 5, 1926, the ball game club merged with VfR Westenfeld-Höntrop to form today's SV Höntrop . The VfR Westenfeld-Höntrop was created in 1921 through the merger of the sports club 1919 Höntrop and Ballspielverein 1919 Westenfeld .

Men's soccer

In 1933, the team only had to bow to FC Schalke 04 in the third final of the district championship and thus missed the West German championship finals. In the same year the Höntropers were accepted into the Gauliga Westfalen, where they were runner-up behind Schalke 04 in 1934 and 1935 . On October 21, 1934, the team managed a 1-0 win against Schalke on their Glückauf track . In the late 1930s, the Höntropers fell back into mediocrity. In the season 1938/39 the descent followed. During the season, the team was suspended for three games - the games were rated 0-0 for the opponents as won - because the Höntroper is said to have obtained the right to play for the player Sendrowski according to the Gauleitung. In 1941 the team reached the promotion round to the Gauliga again, but had to admit defeat to VfL Altenbögge .

Between 1949 and 1951 and from 1952 to 1956 the Höntropians played again in the third-class Landesliga Westfalen . The leap into the association league introduced in 1956 was missed by one point. In 1972 the club slipped down to the district league. After two promotions in three years, SV Höntrop returned to the regional league, before the club returned to the regional league A in 1985 after two relegations in a row. The direct resurgence followed, before the Höntropians were runner-up in the district league in 1992 behind VfB Linden . Three years later, the team was relegated and, apart from the district league years 2001 to 2003, remained in the district league A. It was not until 2009 that it went back up to the district league, before jumping into the regional league two years later. Two relegations in a row brought the club to the district league A in 2016, before being promoted to the district league again in 2018. After only one season, it went back down to the district league A in 2019.

Women's soccer

The women's team is currently more successful. In 2008 for the first time registered in the district league, the Höntropians immediately made two ascents in a row. After several years in the regional league, the team became runner-up behind SG Lütgendortmund in 2017 . Since Lütgendortmund renounced the promotion, SV Höntrop moved into the fourth-class Westphalia League.
