A Ver-o-Mar (also Aver-o-Mar ) is a village and former municipality in northern Portugal . In the Agro-Velho district in particular, A Ver-o-Mar today forms an agglomeration with the district town of Póvoa de Varzim .
history
The place was first mentioned as Abonemar in a document from 1099. Aver-o-Mar belonged to the municipality of Amorim . Only with the growth of the population in the 19th century did the desire to become independent slowly arise. On August 10, 1922, A Ver-o-Mar became its own parish.
In 2003 the place was raised to a small town ( Vila ).
With the municipal reorganization in 2013 , the municipalities of Aver-o-Mar, Amorim and Terroso were dissolved and merged to form the new municipality of Aver-o-Mar, Amorim e Terroso .

With the territorial reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of A Ver-o-Mar, Amorim and Terroso were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Aver-o-Mar, Amorim e Terroso . A Ver-o-Mar became the seat of the new parish.
