Terroso is a place and a former municipality in northern Portugal . The place is known for its Iron Age site, the Cividade de Terroso .

history

The settlement of Cividade de Terroso from the Castro culture

The Mamoa de Sejães and other Mamoas and Antas are evidence of a prehistoric settlement in the municipality. The local settlement from the Castro culture was after the arrival of the Romans from the 5th century BC. Romanized BC .

The oldest document of the village dates back to 953 AD.

In the 17th century, the Aqueduto de Santa Clara , an aqueduct with 999 arches, led the water from here to the Santa Clara Monastery in Vila do Conde .

Until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , Terroso was a municipality in the Barcelos district , and has since belonged to Póvoa de Varzim.

With the municipal reorganization in 2013 , the municipalities of Terroso, Aver-o-Mar and Amorim were dissolved and merged to form the new municipality of Aver-o-Mar, Amorim e Terroso .

Terroso was a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Póvoa de Varzim in the district of Porto . The community had an area of ​​6.7 km² and 2527 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

Aver-o-Mar became the seat of the new municipality, while the former municipal administration in Terroso remained as a citizens' office.
