The volleyball club Neuwied '77 e. V. is a sports club from Neuwied , whose volleyball women's team has been represented in the 2nd Bundesliga South since 2015 .

Club history

The founder and long-time head of the volleyball department of TV Niederbieber Günter Ross and the person responsible for the press work of the association Klaus Blum left the sports club in early 1977 and founded together with Dr. Peter von Becker, Gerd Baulig, Raimund Lepki, Günter Roth, Werner Scheele, Claire Seemann, Horst Seemann and Harro Spitzer on February 23, 1977 in the Seemann house in Niederbieber with the VC 77 Neuwied. The first chairman was Dr. elected by Becker. The first statute was finalized on March 3rd, 1977, the entry in the register of associations took place on April 19th. On May 10th the club was accepted into the Sportbund Rheinland . Green and red were chosen as the club colors. In June, the VCN held a mixed tournament in which 36 teams took part. The event, which became an integral part of the event calendar for the next 14 years, started in 1986 with a record number of 65 teams. The first general meeting took place on July 9, 1977, the number of members at that time was 77. A first edition of the association newspaper was published in November of the same year. At around the same time, the creation of a photo archive began. In the following year, the volleyball club registered teams for point games. In 1980 VC Neuwied took over the organization of a men's international match between Germany and France, which was played in September in the Rhein-Wied-Halle. In June 1982 a surf department was established. In the same year a volleyball team of the club reached the participation in the national championships for the first time. The female A-youth competed with the first German female selection player of the VCN 77 Sabine Rick in Berlin. In April 1988 a tennis department was created in the sports club. This division still exists in 2015, while the surfing department and the coronary sports and health park that were created in the early years of the club were dissolved. The tennis department was dissolved in 2019.

In 1979 the regional league team of TV Niederbieber switched to VCN. The team's coach was Rainer Grathwohl. After the temporary end of his coaching activities, the team was relegated to the league in 1982. With the return of Gratwohl, the ascent was realized in 1984. After the successful coach finally said goodbye, the club's figurehead fought for points in the Rhineland League after a few unsuccessful seasons in 1989. 2001 even had to be relegated to the district league.

In the following years, the women's team was able to improve continuously, so that in 2009 it was promoted back to the Regionalliga Südwest. After a seventh place in 2009/10, fourth place in the following game year and another seventh place in the 2011/12 season, the VCN 77 team qualified for the newly created third division . In the premiere season , the women from Neuwied came fourth, in 2014 the team landed in sixth place and in 2015 the Deichstadtvolleys became champions of the third division south and promoted to the second division.

The 2015/2016 season ended with 3rd place in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga South Women under coach Milan Kocian.

The 2016/2017 season ended with 5th place in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga South under coach Milan Kocian.

The 2017/2018 season ended with 6th place in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga South under coach Bernd Werscheck.

The 2018/2019 season ended with 3rd place in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga South under coach Bernd Werscheck.

The 2019/2020 season ends with 4th place in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga South Women under coach Dirk Groß.
