Timothy "Timo" Lippuner (born November 11, 1980 in Solothurn , Switzerland ) is a Swiss volleyball trainer . He currently trains the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg and has also been the Swiss national coach for many years .

Career as a club coach

Lippuner started a career as a player at Volley Solothurn at the age of 18, but after a year he took the path of coach. After starting out as a youth coach for his home club, he worked for the regional selection of Aargau , VBC Münchenbuchsee and the Zurich Talent School. Finally, in 2010, he became assistant coach to Volero Zurich , with whom he became Swiss champion and cup winner five times. In December 2013 he took over his first position as head coach in the senior division at Sm'Aesch Pfeffingen , led the team out of the NLA's table cellar during his four-year term and established them in the top group behind series champion Volero Zurich . In 2017, Lippuner became the first Swiss coach to make the leap into the German Volleyball Bundesliga and signed a three-year contract with the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg . Lippuner decided not to extend this contract in 2020 and will be active again within the Swiss junior division at the beginning of the 2020/21 season. Details about this engagement are still pending.

National team

Due to a cooperation between Volero Zurich and Swiss Volley , Lippuner also became an assistant coach of the Swiss national team in 2010, parallel to his involvement in Zurich . He had held this position since 2007 as an assistant to Séverin Granvorka. After the EM 2013 he took over the team from Svetlana Ilić, initially on an interim basis and then as head coach. Under Lippuner, the Swiss celebrated their greatest successes to date by reaching the last qualifying round for the 2014 World Cup and the first athletic qualification for a European Championship in 2019 (Switzerland was automatically qualified as host for the 2013 European Championship).

After the 2019 European Championship, Lippuner announced his resignation as national coach. The reason he stated was that he wanted to concentrate fully on his work as a club coach.
