European Women's Volleyball Championship 2019
The 2019 European Women's Volleyball Championship took place from 23 August to 8 September 2019. It was held for the first time in four countries; The hosts were Poland , Slovakia , Turkey and Hungary . The number of participants was increased to 24 teams. Serbia won the final against Turkey and successfully defended its title. Third place went to Italy . The German team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Polish women who ended up fourth .
mode
The tournament began with a preliminary round in four groups of six teams each. The internationally customary scoring applied: If the score was 3: 0 or 3: 1, the winner received three points, the loser received nothing. If the match was 3-2, there were two points for the winner and one for the loser. The four best teams in each group reached the round of 16, in which they played crosswise (A1 against C4, B1 against D4, etc.). Then it went on in knockout mode.
Venues
The European championship was held in four sports facilities. The venues were Ankara , Bratislava , Budapest and Łódź , with the semi-finals and the final taking place in Turkey.
