The Ankara Arena ( Turkish Ankara Spor Salonu ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Ulus district of the Altındağ district of the Turkish capital Ankara . As the home ground of the three basketball clubs Hacettepe Üniversitesi BK , Türk Telekomspor and TED Ankara Kolejliler SK, it replaced the nearby Ankara Ataturk Spor Salonu from 1969 with 4500 seats.
history
The Ankara Arena was built for the 2010 Basketball World Cup . The building, designed by Yazgan Tasarım Mimarlık, began on June 17, 2009 and was inaugurated on April 23, 2010. The hall with an elliptical floor area of 47,593 m² offers 10,400 seats. The total building area is 53,000 m². The glass facade is provided with horizontal, white and vertical, orange panels for sun protection. The Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadı football stadium , which was demolished in 2018, was located directly to the north . Ankara train station is only a few hundred meters south . After the basketball world championship, other world and European championships followed, such as the women's basketball world championship in 2014 . In 2019 the arena will be one of four venues for the European Women's Volleyball Championship .
